Brava, July 1, 2023 (Bravanews) - Former President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, expressed concern about the various constraints that the island of Brava continues to face, highlighting the need to address these issues urgently and effective. In a recent post on one of his social networks, Fonseca highlighted the importance of investments and specific policies to boost the socioeconomic development of the island.

Brava Island, located in the Cape Verdean archipelago, has faced significant challenges that limit its growth potential. The lack of adequate infrastructure, the scarcity of water resources, the decrease in agricultural activities and the limited connectivity with other islands have been some of the main concerns that affect the quality of life of residents and local economic development.

In contacts with anonymous people, members of civil society and local authorities, former President Fonseca highlighted the need for a joint effort between the central government, local authorities and investors to overcome these challenges. He stressed that it is essential to implement concrete measures to promote infrastructure, education, health and tourism on the island, with the aim of boosting its economy and improving the living conditions of the population.

Fonseca also emphasized the importance of promoting local entrepreneurship and encouraging the formation of partnerships between the public and private sectors. He highlighted the need to attract investment to Brava Island in order to diversify its economy and create employment opportunities for local youth, thus reducing dependence on traditional agricultural activities.

He made it clear that his stay on Brava was useful and enjoyable. “The island continues to struggle with difficulties, various constraints and challenges that limit the possibilities of its development and of adjusting the step with other parts of the country. The transport sectors (maritime, but also air); the health; water, are the main ones that deserve more careful and urgent attention from the public authorities”, he said.

Adding that he was, “however, touched and relatively optimistic to see that there are people in Brave society with the ability, will and determination to row against the tide and overcome difficulties, to put the island on the path of progress and in the place it deserves in the context of national".

In addition, he highlighted the need to improve Brava Island's connectivity with other parts of the country, through the development of transport and communication infrastructure. This would allow for easier access to essential services, as well as boosting tourism and facilitating trade between the island and the rest of Cape Verde.

Jorge Carlos Fonseca concluded his statements by reiterating his commitment to seeking solutions to the challenges faced by Brava Island and reaffirming his support for local communities. He expressed confidence that, with concerted efforts, Brava Island could overcome the constraints and enjoy a prosperous and sustainable future. The President encouraged the people of the island to stand together and work together with the government to achieve these goals.
