José Maria Neves expresses solidarity with Bravens residents after fire in Nova Sintra
The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, today expressed his "deep dismay" at the fire that recently broke out in the Shopping Centre in the city of Nova Sintra, on the island of Brava, causing "significant material damage, in a space of sustenance and dignity for several small traders and their families".

In a statement, the Head of State reiterated the full availability of the Presidency of the Republic to, “within the strict limits of its attributions, provide institutional monitoring and support that may be deemed relevant”.
" At this particularly difficult time for the people of Brava, I would like to express, on my own behalf and on behalf of the Cape Verdean people, the most sincere and supportive expression of condolence and encouragement to the President, to the city council that he heads and, above all, to the citizens directly affected by this misfortune" , said Maria Neves, in an official letter addressed to the President of the Brava City Council, Amândio Semedo de Brito.
The President also praised " the prompt and diligent commitment of local authorities and civil protection services, whose swift intervention made it possible to avoid even more serious consequences ".
He states that he is " convinced that, with the resilience that has historically distinguished the brave people of Brava, it will be possible to overcome this adversity, rising again with renewed hope and firmness" .
Still in the letter that this digital newspaper had access to, José Maria Neves guaranteed that as Head of State, he will continue to monitor with due attention the evolution of the situation and the responses that may be mobilized by the City Council, the Government, institutional partners and civil society, with the objective of ensuring " the dignified subsistence of families whose income was abruptly interrupted " and, in the long term, " the rehabilitation or reconstruction of the affected commercial infrastructure, as well as the resumption of economic activities by the affected traders" , he concluded.
The person responsible for the Municipal Civil Protection and Fire Service of Brava Island said this Thursday in statements to Inforpress, that “ probably ” a short circuit could be the cause of the fire in the City's Shopping Center.
The same source also highlighted that the flame completely consumed ten stores and that on the part of the Municipal Civil Protection and Fire Service there was a “fast acting” to minimize losses in the building.
