Júlia Fernandes, a 72-year-old Cape Verdean, was found dead at her home in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts, United States, on August 27, 2017.

The cause of death, the autopsy revealed, was head trauma. His son Danny Lopes, the only suspect, was arrested a few days later at a cousin's house in Providence, in the state of Rhode Island.

At the time Danny was 34 years old and according to the investigation, before the crime he had "taken control" of his mother's finances. In addition to having confessed to the crime and having shown the body to someone before fleeing, the police also found the fireplace poker that he would have used to attack his mother.

Danny was tried this February and a Plymouth Superior Court jury found him guilty of first-degree premeditated murder with extreme cruelty, which, under Massachusetts state law, is automatically punishable by life imprisonment without possibility. to leave.
