Leo Pereira, the pride of Bravense in the Waters of Djarfogo
Leo Pereira, a young athlete from Brava, continues to shine like a star in the skies of Cape Verdean sports. Recently, at the Regional Swimming Championship held on the island of Fogo, Leo once again demonstrated his supremacy in the water, winning four gold medals in all the events he competed in: 50-meter breaststroke, 100-meter breaststroke, 100-meter freestyle and 50-meter freestyle. He gave his opponents no chance, showing an extraordinary performance and proving why he is considered a promising talent in national swimming.
Born on the island of Brava, Leo Pereira has been a symbol of pride for his homeland, bringing home countless medals and elevating the island's name to the highest podiums. However, his career has not been without its challenges. He does not hide the lack of support and resources to participate in competitions held outside his island, a situation that highlights the difficulties faced by athletes from Brava.
Despite the adversities, Leo is grateful for the support of figures such as Daniel Tavares (Dany Poupança) and Carlos Lopes (kajo), whose support was fundamental for him to be able to compete in Fogo and represent Brava with honor and determination.
With just a few resources and a lot of dedication, the "little big Leo", as he is affectionately called, transforms himself in the waters like a real dolphin, demonstrating his innate talent and the enormous promise he represents for Cape Verdean sport.
It is therefore essential that the competent authorities and society in general recognise and support athletes like Leo Pereira. Brava has an extraordinary talent that deserves better conditions and support to continue to take the name of the island to the highest level.
It is time to review the sport in Brava and ensure that talents like Leo can reach their full potential. The young swimmer is not only an example of determination and excellence, but also a source of pride for all Brava residents.
