Brava: Drivers with overdue driving licenses again demand clarification from DGTR

A group of drivers from Ilha Brava with overdue driving licenses went back to the press today to "demand" clarification from the DGTR about the alleged delay and lack of information on the part of local services.

Speaking to the press, Zezinho Rocha said that the situation has been recurrent for several years and in his case, he obtained his driving license a few years ago, but that until then he had been driving with the provisional license that was always renewed 90 in 90 days.

And, as he reinforced, whenever he seeks the services of the Directorate-General for Road Transport (DGTR) on the island to renew the provisional license or to request his driving license, he is told that there is still no answer about his situation.

He added that lately, when going to the DGTR services to renew his provisional license, he has been informed that they are not renewing it anymore, stressing that the constraints in this situation are several, since the authorities, when carrying out the inspection work, in this case the National Police, always require valid documents.

Also, David Garcia is another driver who took his category D exam in 2015 and until then is driving with a provisional license. Until recently, the only answer I received when looking for information at the DGTR was that the letters were overdue, but that the situation would be resolved.

However, he added that the message given to him by the employee is that "individuals in this situation will have to pay a fee again and possibly undergo another practical assessment".

“How is it possible to take the exam, pay a fee where the provisional letter was issued to us and wait for the letter to be in the system and now there is nothing in the system”, questioned the young man, adding that not even his written professional card exam is available at DGTR services on Brava.

José Andrade, is another driver who finds himself in the same “alarming situation”, several years ago he renewed his provisional license every 90 days and now the information he received is that the provisional license is no longer being renewed and that to resolve this situation you have to pay the fee again and take the practical exam.

Faced with this situation, drivers question how the DGTR services are working on the island where students who took the exams about eight months ago already have their driving license, while those who took eight or more years they did not receive theirs and there is no evidence of payment or tests, with only the provisional as proof that they are qualified.

Some drivers in this situation sought out the press in November 2022, and at the time, Inforpress contacted the current DGTR delegate for the Fogo e Brava region, João Silva, who informed that the situation of drivers with pending licenses would be analyzed and subsequently “appropriate measures would be taken”. decisions that are imposed”.

But so far, no official solution for these drivers has yet been presented.

It should be noted that in February 2022, the current delegate was in Brava where he met with the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, and the mayor assured in an interview with Inforpress that the island was experiencing a new era in relation to services provided by DGTR, focusing on the speed and computerization of the system.

In the same interview, Francisco Tavares announced that the DGTR was committed to trying to resolve all pending issues that had been raised up to that date by some citizens in obtaining their licenses, and the DGTR stipulated the end of 2022 as the deadline for resolve this situation.
