In 2003, he moved to Paris where, in January 2004, he performed in one of the most renowned launch bars for world music artists, the Satellite Café. During his growth and development process, Andrade was influenced by Brazilian songs, the first heard as a child.
Career and recognition.
In 2001, he won the gold medal with a song in Cape Verdean Creole at the 2001 Francophonie Games, held in Ottawa, Canada. The following year, 2002, he began performing in Praia, capital of Cape Verve, and in Mindelo. During this period, he began performing internationally, starting to sing in Lisbon and Paris.
In order to pursue his career in music, in 2002 he immigrated to France, living in the city of Paris.
In 2005, Charles Aznavour invited her to his new album, in a duet in French.
In 2006, the album Navega was released, which includes compositions by Orlando Pantera such as "Lapidu Na Bô", "Dispidida", "Regasu" and "Tunuka".
In 2008 he won the BBC Radio 3 World Music award in the new category.
In 2009 he released the album "Stória, stória…", an album described as having a more universal pop language, without leaving aside the flavor of world music.
In 2010 he released the album Studio 105.
In November 2013 he released the CD Lovely Difficult. The album was nominated, in France, for the "Victoires de la Musique" awards, in the World Music category.
In 2016, after 14 years living in France, he moved to Lisbon.
In 2018, she won the Femina Prize, for merit in arts and letters, with emphasis on musical arts and singing.
In 2019 he released his fifth studio album, called "Manga".
In 2021, she was considered one of the most influential black personalities in Lusophony by Bantumen magazine, appearing alongside names such as Grada Kilomba, Dino d'Santiago and others, on the Bantumen Powerlist100 list.
In 2022 he released the song "Ogum Ogum", in partnership with rapper Criolo. They performed the song together on September 3, 2022, on Rock in Rio's Sunset Stage.
Andrade also collaborated with other Brazilian artists, with Lenine and Chico Buarque.
Activism
Since 2015, Mayra Andrade has become an ambassador for the UN Free and Equal campaign in Cape Verde to launch an appeal for respect and acceptance of the LGBT community in the archipelago.
