According to the official, after an analysis by the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG), Brava island remains at alert level three, due to “successive seismic activities”.

“We are cautious, we are acting on prevention, the situation at the moment is calm, but since from a technical and scientific point of view there is a record of events that makes us at alert level three from the point of view of civil protection there is also a set of actions that all have to be within the scope of the national system”, declared Paulo Rocha.

The minister explained that a team from the National Civil Protection and Fire Service is currently on the island, accompanied by other technicians who are in Brava through the United Nations system in Cape Verde, working to reinforce awareness raising activities in schools. , communities and local authorities, aiming to provide answers.

From an operational point of view, he added that they are in the preparation and analysis phase of the resources available, in case it is necessary to put into action the contingency and evacuation plan for Brava Island, drawn up in 2016.

“The community has already been more worried at the moment, it is a calmer community, but the action of permanent reinforcement of awareness and sharing of information is being carried out on the ground, without much alarm, without unnecessarily worrying those who do not have to worry, But people need to know what reality is and also know how to act”, he highlighted.

According to Inforpress, students and teachers at Escola Básica de Nossa Senhora do Monte (EBNSM), in Brava, said today that they were experiencing days of “panic and fear” in the school with degraded structures, as the island has been under shake constantly.
