Mosteiros: José Coelho do Rosário wins the municipal race for the fourth consecutive time

The athlete who led the race from the initial kilometers and made the route Igreja/Mosteiros Trás/Igreja/Fajãzinha/Igreja, over a distance of ten kilometers, in a time of 33 minutes and 36 seconds, with an advantage of about two minutes over second place Nelson Correia, an athlete from Mosteiros.

In third place and entitled to a trophy and monetary prize was Edy Djony Monteiro from the municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo, with a time of 35 minutes and 56 seconds.

The winner was satisfied with his fourth consecutive victory in the Mosteiros Municipality Day race, noting that the goal had been achieved.

Brava said that after two kilometers he had already taken the lead in the race and given the distance he had in relation to his pursuer, he controlled and managed the time as the others were unable to keep up with the imposed pace.

One of the favorites of the race, the athlete from Mosteirense, Kueny Miranda, withdrew before the ten minutes of the race and at a time when he was in sixth place.

Altogether, 11 of the 17 athletes enrolled in the race participated, of which they concluded the race, some with about 20 minutes of delay in relation to the winner.

The Sports department proceeded, on site, with the delivery of trophies to the first three classified, with the monetary prize to be delivered today, 14th of August.

In terms of the football tournament, the cup was in Mosteiros and in the hands of the team from Grito Povo, from Ribeira do Ilhéu, in the northern part of the municipality.

After drawing 0-0 with Cutelinho on the opening day and securing a place in the final on penalties, in the final game they tied again, this time two goals against Coroa da Brava and, on penalties, they were more effective, triumph 4-3, thus snatching the cup.

Today, the final stage of the horse race takes place, a modality that moves a large number of people not only from the municipality of Mosteiros, but mainly from the municipality of São Filipe, since all the horses are owned by or live in São Filipe.

Thus, the horses Vulcão (Clóvis Teixeira), Badia and Nimosis (Salomão Amado), Pasadinha (Arlindo Lopes) and América Dreams (Norberto Araújo) will compete for the five monetary prizes.

The horse Arley, which was initially announced as qualified for the final stage, was disqualified along with Força Emigrante.

According to the draw, in the first series are the horses Vulcão, Badia and Nimosis and in the second series the horses América Dreams and Pasadinha.

The prizes for the first five classified are 120, 100, 80, 60 and 40 thousand escudos and the other horses are entitled to a participation prize of 15 thousand escudos.

The top three finishers are entitled to trophies, as well as the best joker.
