MpD says that discussion of the law on the Statute of Municipalities “is a way to reach regionalization”

“Regionalization is an issue that has been debated. It is a process, as you can see, we are discussing the municipal law, which is a way to achieve regionalization in the medium term. It is the way to create autonomy, to organize and create better financial and organizational conditions for our municipalities and, perhaps, in the medium term, we will be able to reach the issue of regionalization. It is a step we are taking, it is a process”, he said.

Jaime Monteiro, who was previewing the first plenary session in July, which starts this Wednesday, commented on the law that approves the new Statute of Municipalities, one of the points on the agenda, stressing that the MpD's proposal is to reinforce municipalism.

“The proposal that will be presented is more complete, it reinforces municipalism in its organization, and we also have things in common with the PAICV proposal. From our point of view, the Government's proposal is more complete and we hope that with a two-thirds majority we will have a vote that can approve the referred proposal”, he emphasized.

On the agenda of the 19th Plenary Session are the proposed law that establishes the bases of the Municipal Budget (vote on the specificity), the draft law that approves the new Statute of Municipalities (discussion on generality and specificity), the draft law that defines the conditions for attribution, acquisition, loss and reacquisition of Cape Verdean nationality (special vote) and the proposed law that defines the conditions for attribution, acquisition, loss and reacquisition of Cape Verdean nationality (special vote).

There will also be a question period from the deputies to the Government, with the MpD indicating the Minister of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing, Eunice Silva and also a question to the Government about the 2023/2024 agricultural campaign, proposed by the PAICV.
