Aristides Tavares Moreira "felt bad" this Sunday, having been assisted by the fire services on his fifth day of hunger strike, but even so, he guarantees that he will continue with the hunger strike that was the way he found to protest against what he considers to be “political persecution” by his employer, the National Assembly of
Cape Green.
Adelino claims that he has been working in the National Assembly for about 17 years, as an archivist, but lately, for no plausible reasons, he has been experiencing an authentic ordeal.
As a result, he decided to go on a hunger strike to denounce the situation and see his rights as a worker restored.
"At this moment I no longer fear for my life... the outside world needs to know how state institutions work in Cape Verde and how officials are persecuted due to political issues... We all have our color, but within the National Assembly there are enormous persecution against people who they know belong to the opposition party, which is the PAICV, they do everything to make the person discouraged and leave the service", said Adelino Tavares Moreira.
After several years as a file clerk, he said he was put to work as a gardener and then a plumber, areas in which he had no training.
Adelino added that the head of the Heritage Department even had nine days cut off from her salary "without the initiation of any disciplinary process as required by law".
He promises to "harden the fight", even ceasing to drink liquids from this Monday, the day that the Administration of Parliament promises to pronounce the case.
