The National Day of Culture and Communities, marked today, the 18th, will be celebrated with cultural events on all the islands and will have one of the central points in Praia, with a serenade and a large “culture in movement” march.

According to a press release from the Government, the date will be celebrated under the motto “We are Culture”, as a way of exalting Cape Verdean culture in the country and in the diaspora, recognizing the importance of the Cape Verdean community and honoring those who have set out on their path. to other destinations and that continue to express the culture abroad, reinforcing the Cape Verdean being in future generations.

Under the sign of Eugénio Tavares, patron of the National Day of Culture and Communities, the kick-off will be given with a performance by the Military Band from 9am, in front of the Praia Ethnographic Museum, followed by a parade by House Of Onix and funaná with Binho next to the Raiz di Polon space on Rua Pedonal, in Platô.

The highlight of the celebrations will be the great “culture in movement” march, starting at Rotunda 1º de Maio at 4pm, traveling along Avenida Cidade Lisboa and culminating in a musical moment, with several artists in front of the Jorge Barbosa National Auditorium. , in Chã de Areia.

In the Cape Verdean capital, there will be performances by Binho and Zeca Fontes in Ponta Belém and at the Platô market, where they will take the tabanca to the vendors, and Totinho will be in front of the Ethnographic Museum for a saxophone moment.

The day will also be marked, in the city of Praia, with visits by Integrated Basic Education (EBI) students to the Amílcar Cabral memorial and the National Archives and a fashion show.

According to the same source, the Mindelo Cultural Center (CCM), the National Art Center, and the National Crafts and Design Center (CNAD) in São Vicente will have open exhibitions available for visits.

The Serenata Rave will begin at 6:30 pm, which will take its route from the CCM to CNAD), Nôs Mesa CNAD and the Lab Dança presentation, followed by a DJ performance.

According to the program, in all islands and municipalities in the country, there will be “serenades as well as theater, crafts and gastronomy shows.

The date will also be marked with a cultural event in Lisbon, Portugal, chaired by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente.

The agenda also includes exhibitions and the awarding of merit medals to figures and associations that have contributed to ensuring that Cape Verdean culture always has a presence wherever it is.
