Jennifer Adams expressed this wish after presenting her credentials to the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, and considered that the history that unites the two countries is one of “success” and reflects “an intense network of relationships” in the most diverse domains, including political, economic, cultural and social.

“During my term, I intend to continue strengthening ties of cooperation, intensifying bilateral relations for the benefit of our two countries and we will count not only on actions at the government level, but also on the participation of the business community, educators, the press and, above all, Cape Verdeans, both resident and in the diaspora”, he said.

The diplomat, who highlighted “the excellence of cooperation” between the two countries, stressed that the relationship has borne “good fruit” and highlighted the security partnership with the state of New Hampshire, exchange programs such as Fulbright and YALI, Young Africa Leaders Initiative and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

On the occasion, he also said that he begins his mission at an emblematic moment, since Cape Verde begins its fiftieth anniversary of independence next year, which, in his opinion, is a “crucial milestone” to reflect on the achievements and challenges faced by the country over these five decades.

For the American diplomat, the celebration of the centenary of Amílcar Cabral, the “great leader” who fought for the independence of that country, is another notable fact in this year of celebration.

Jennifer Adams, who also expressed her intention to get to know the Cape Verdean people and culture, assured that Cape Verde can count on her and her team's availability to face together “with determination the important challenges” for the coming times.

“The Government of the United States of America will continue to be engaged through both the MCC and the African Development Foundation programs, self-help and security cooperation agreements such as the one we have with the state of New Hampshire,” concluded the diplomat.
