Nha Santana: António Gonçalves wins the cycling race and wins three trophies in Brava within a month

The athlete who had already been crowned champion in the Nhô Santo António competitions in the locality of Lém and in the competition on the Day of the Municipality of Brava, all in the last month of June, again crossed the finish line in the locality of Mato, competition organized within the scope of the festivities of the locality's patron saint, Santa Ana (Nha Santana de Mato), celebrated on the 26th of July.

Speaking to Inforpress, the athlete said that of the participations he has already made in Brava, this competition was more difficult, justifying that his course colleagues were always close, forcing him to strive more and more to achieve the goal set from the beginning. .

He regretted the poor participation of young people from Brave in the competitions that have been held and took the opportunity to warn young people to take advantage of the opportunities, justifying that it is the “small” competitions that manage to follow a path and reach further.

In turn, Manuel Araújo, a member of the association Amigos Associados de Santana do Mato (Amasama), the association responsible for organizing the activities of this festival, emphasized that this race was carried out with four cyclists, justifying that they had to bring two athletes from Fogo to able to materialize the proof.

As he pointed out, in Brava young people who dedicate themselves to cycling are few in number and the few that exist do not always want to participate.

Therefore, it showed that in order to carry out these tests they face several difficulties, justifying that if there were more athletes interested in Brava, the tests would have more “brightness”.

He took the opportunity to remind young people that the more involved they are in sport, the less likely they are to take drugs, alcoholism or other social ills.

As part of the sporting activities, there was also a kids athletics event, organized by an emigrant, Elígio Burgo, in memory of “Ti Mochu”, an event that is now in its second edition.

According to the organizer, Ti Mochu was “a man who is friendly to children”, also highlighting his humility and, therefore, decided to organize the race that in these two editions, children from Furna, Nossa Senhora do Monte and Mato have already participated.

In the evening, the final of the futsal tournament and the “pilon” are scheduled.

Continuing with the programme, the person in charge announced the holding of the senior athletics competitions, for the 25th, and, to end the day, a white night was scheduled with the intention of appealing to serenity and tranquility.

On the 26th, Nha Santana Day, the usual coffee at Nha Santana's house is scheduled, mass in honor of the Saint, in the church of Nossa Senhora do Monte, the traditional lunch, activities for children and the boat to the mast at the end of the day .

People from all parts of the parish are involved in organizing these activities, as well as emigrants from Nossa Senhora do Monte and Mato who return to their home island to celebrate the patron saint of Mato.
