“Winning the PAICV, winning the next elections in 2026, in an intense dialogue with activists, civil society and citizens, and overcoming the major challenges - employment, poverty, inequalities, housing, health, transport, education, crime - are my major strategic priorities", pointed out the vice-president of the largest opposition party.

“In view of all this, we are willing to submit our candidacy for the national leadership of the PAICV, hoping to count on the support of party members in all political regions and all sectors, in Cape Verde and in the diaspora, and the support of society and citizens, because we want an open, dialoguing party that builds bridges and consensus,” wrote Nuias Silva on her social media page.

Silva said that his candidacy is endorsed “by the “people of the party” with an ambition based on the conviction that it will be useful in the unity and cohesion of the party he represents and in defining a new development agenda for Cape Verde.

“We propose an inclusive leadership, which counts on everyone and which mobilizes and unites, once again, all Cape Verdean women and men around the major national objectives.

“Our proposal is that the strengths of the PAICV are the firmness of its ideology and the unity of its members, extended to friends and supporters, in a convergence based on plurality and diversity, which is a reflection of Cape Verdean society. We propose new paths, in an intense dialogue with Cape Verdeans and in the conviction that together we can do more and better for the PAICV and for Cape Verde”, he said.

For Nuias Silva, “Cape Verde urgently needs a new direction, to mobilize all Cape Verdeans, on the islands and in the diaspora, to restore confidence, reinvigorate hope and resume the country’s modernization dynamics, aiming for prosperity and a better quality of life”.

“We must be able to provide concrete and effective responses to people’s legitimate questions and daily demands. I am thinking of fairer and more sustainable solutions; I am thinking of more decentralization and more local power, with more skills and more resources, better inter-island transport and connections with our immense diaspora…”, he explained.

He also pointed out “profound changes in the national health system and education, more effective combating of crime, more economic growth and much greater competitiveness in areas such as renewable energy, information technology and creative economies”.

Nuias Silva becomes the second candidate to officially announce his run for the leadership of the PAICV, after the president of the Praia City Council, Francisco Carvalho, declared his candidacy earlier in the week.
