Nuias Silva winks at PAICV leadership
Current mayor of São Filipe, Fogo, is ready to run again for a second term, but opens up the possibility of being able to run in another municipality if the PAICV indicates it or for any challenge at national level, leaving implicit a possible candidacy for leadership of the tambourine party.
The mayor of São Filipe, Nuías Silva, said that he is available to apply for São Filipe or for any place and challenge that the PAICV may have at a local or national level.
“I am available for the party. It is the PAICV that will decide and Nuias is a servant at the service of the party, the municipality and the country”, said the mayor, quoted by Inforpress, recalling that the candidacies are decided by the PAICV and that being a PAICV militant he is willing to apply for any place and accept any challenge that the PAICV may have at national and local level.
Nuias Silva has long been associated with the leadership of the PAICV, a party of which he was vice-president. Now, at a time when potential candidates are cooking up internally to lead the party for the next (legislative) electoral clash against Ulisses Correia e Silva, the name of the mayor of São Filipe appears again.
And this time he himself admits this possibility, when he says he is available for any challenge that the PAICV wants to call him, whether at the local level - that is to say, for any other municipality, Praia being a hypothesis on the table - or at the national level , in this case the presidency of the largest opposition party, an old project of the politician from Fogo.
In fact, and as if anticipating what could happen in 2024, Nuias Silva guarantees that the PAICV's re-candidacy for the São Filipe Chamber is certain, with him or with anyone else. “We have great works for the next term. I have absolute confidence that São Filipe will continue with the PAICV because the gains are immeasurable and we cannot afford to try to go back”, he said, stressing that the experience “was positive” and the “bet was won”.
