The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, said today, in Mindelo, that the Ocean Race regatta places Cape Verde and the city of Mindelo at the center of world interest.

Ulisses Correia e Silva made these remarks when presiding over the official opening of Ocean Race Cabo Verde, an event that, according to him, brings “high notoriety” to the country, and when it ends “leaves good things for São Vicente and for Cape Verde” as infrastructures.

“The pier where the boats will stop will be owned by Cape Verde and will be used for other events. In the Tanquinho area, a technical and architectural project competition has already been launched and will be rehabilitated so that we can have accessibility in the Matiota area and create infrastructures in the Cabnave area that will host upcoming events”, he explained, considering that São Vicente will also it is already winning with full hotels, full restaurants, circulation of the economy working, which impacts the local economy.

For this reason, he considered the passage of the regatta a “historic and unique moment for São Vicente and Cape Verde”.
The President of the Ocean Race, Richard Brises, was proud to be in São Vicente, defending that it is a historic moment.

“It is historic because it is the first time that the Ocean Race has visited this beautiful nation, which is Cape Verde, it is historic because it is the first time that the park has opened here, in which the organization of this world-class sport brought together the forces with the Government of Cape Verde to carry out the Ocean Race in the country and in defense of a planet and better health of the oceans", maintained the same source, who said he had the dream of bringing the Ocean Race to Cape Verde, which was achieved thanks to the vision of people like the Prime Minister.
Richard Brises congratulated the local organization, noting that they made a beautiful reception park and a beautiful stopover in Cape Verde, for which he said he really believes that everyone will enjoy the event.
In turn, the deputy mayor of São Vicente, Rodrigo Martins, stressed the importance of the Ocean Race in promoting the island of São Vicente for tourism, for investments, but also for the message of preservation of the oceans and environmental sustainability that carries.
“The arrival of the most emblematic and largest regatta in the world will have a very positive impact on the local economy and its multiplier effects”, he predicted.
The chairman of the board of directors of Enapor, Ireneu Camacho, said that, considering the importance of the sea for the country and its inducing effect on the blue economy and sustainable development, it is of great value to be associated with events of this magnitude that will make it possible to boost tourism, the maritime economy, also sport and gain visibility in our international arena.
