Opinion: Changes in Brava City Council, the victory of the people and the challenges for the future
It is with great pleasure that I come here to communicate something important that reflects the clear will of the people of our beloved island of Brava. As everyone knows, the municipal elections held on December 1st marked a new phase for our community, and the result is a reflection that, in the end, it is the people who decide, and in this case, the decision has already been made.
In the election, the people opted for a significant change in the management of the Brava Municipal Council, choosing Mr. Amandio and Mrs. Ivone Cardoso to lead the island's destiny. This choice was not by chance. The victory of these candidates represents the hope for renewal, the desire for a new dynamic and added value for the development of Brava. The voters were not mistaken: a vote for Amandio and Ivone is, above all, a vote for change, seriousness and commitment to the future of our island.
However, what happened with the previous administration deserves reflection. The defeat of the team that was in charge of the City Council is not only due to circumstantial issues, but to a series of failures and decisions that, over time, did not meet the expectations of the people. The so-called "mediocre team", as some called it, failed to bring about the desired progress. The failure was visible, and the responsibility lies with several names that, in some way, failed to gain the trust of the voters.
Among the members of the defeated administration, figures such as former Father Denilson, Nati Barbero, Zé de Shell, and Mário Jorge stand out, whose arrogant attitude did not help to win popular support. The main responsibility for the loss of the municipal government, however, falls on Mr. Ideal Louro, who, as a protégé of the mayor Francisco Tavares, was unable to hide his obvious rapid enrichment. The insufficient support from other members of his team was also notable, as instead of working together, they divided forces, compromising the cohesion needed to face adversity.
This scenario is repeated in relation to previous political figures. What happened with previous administrations in the past is now repeated with Mr. Francisco. In both cases, the teams that did not unite around the leadership ended up being defeated at the polls. The lack of unity and mutual support within previous administrations was a determining factor in the loss of popular trust.
However, the lesson for all of us is clear: victory is not built solely on promises or work already done, but on true humility, seriousness and honesty in dealing with people. The people of Brava want more than empty words; they want concrete actions and a genuine commitment to their well-being. This is what voters expect from those who take on public office, and this is what was decisive in the recent victory of Amandio and Ivone.
Now is the time to look to the future. Brava needs new directions, and the new leadership has a huge responsibility ahead of it. The island faces challenges in many areas, from infrastructure to social and economic development. It is essential that the new City Council leaders focus on delivering on their promises, with transparency and accountability.
Brava is an island with immense potential, and the change in the City Council is a clear sign that the people are willing to work and build a better future. Now, more than ever, we need to join forces, put aside our differences and work together for the good of all. Only then will we be able to face the challenges and achieve the progress we all desire.
Therefore, the victory of Mr. Amandio and Ms. Ivone is more than just an election result; it is a sign that the people of Brava are ready to write a new chapter in their history, with more justice, more development and, above all, more respect for their needs and aspirations. May the new administration be guided by humility, seriousness and hard work, because the people of Brava have already decided their future.
