The book in English, at the request of many people, especially those who do not speak Portuguese, will be presented by the Ambassador of Cape Verde in Washington Carlos Veiga.
It is a record of the journey of this "self made man", who successfully fulfilled the trajectory of an immigrant, returns to his Djabraba to, with his management experience, make his contribution to the development of that island.
The preface is signed by his friend, the President of the Republic of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos Almeida Fonseca.
Balla emigrated to the USA in 1971, having returned to Cape Verde in 1982, where he found out about the situation on his island, namely regarding the `deficient inter-island connection.
Finally, from 2012 to 2017, Orlando Balla took over the municipality of Ilha das Flores, serving as an example that immigrants can also contribute to the development process of the country.
He was, and still is today, the only mayor of the diaspora to hold this position in his hometown. .
In the United States, he decided for the maritime life in the famous company Exxon Shipping Company, where he worked for 36 years, having gone from second seaman to maritime officer. From 1981 to 2010 he was a merchant navy officer later with a commander's and pilot's license.
