Nossa Senhora do Monte - Limited development in our Village - Reflections on elevation and unfulfilled expectations

Today, we celebrate the eighth anniversary of the elevation of our dear parish to the village, or rather, the Vila de Nossa Senhora do Monte. We remember with joy the moment we received this news, with hopes that this change would usher in a new era of development and opportunity for all of us. However, as time has moved on, it's hard not to reflect on what has really changed and what still remains to be done.

True, there were noticeable improvements. Roads were opened, some rural roads were paved, and public bathhouses were built. We also give thanks for a nursery school that meets the needs of immigrants. These initiatives are valuable and contribute to the well-being of our community. But, looking back, we must admit that these achievements are only small steps towards a broader development.

Let's get to the heart of the matter. A village like ours should have certain essential services and infrastructure to really justify its elevation. It is disappointing to see that, even after eight years, we face persistent challenges. We cannot ignore the significant gaps that still exist:

- Neglected paved roads: The lack of paved roads impacts mobility and economic development.

  • Hospital deficiency: Not having a hospital in adequate conditions directly affects the health and well-being of the community.

  • Postal closures: The absence of postal services for more than two decades is unacceptable and harmful.

  • Lack of police security: The lack of a 24-hour police station leaves our village vulnerable.

  • Lack of financial institutions: The absence of bank branches and ATMs makes financial transactions difficult.

  • Fuel station: The lack of a gas station affects mobility and convenience.

  • -Neglected public spaces: The lack of squares and leisure areas limits the quality of life of the population.

  • Need for municipal agency: A decentralized municipal agency could streamline local services and administration.

  • Compromised security: The lack of security measures puts the peace of mind of residents at risk.

  • Lack of sports infrastructure: The absence of a covered sports center limits access to sports and leisure.

We can no longer accept that our village remains stagnant in time. To effectively enjoy the benefits of a village, it is essential that the municipal government act proactively to address these problems. Residents deserve basic services and infrastructure consistent with the title of village.

Today, on our eight year anniversary as a village, we not only celebrate, but also reflect on the challenges that remain. Our hope is that, in the years to come, city officials will hear our voices and work to transform our village into a place we are truly proud to call home.

With best wishes to the people of Vila de Nossa Senhora do Monte,

Oliveira Gomes
