PAICV/ Brava considers filing a Criminal Complaint against the President of the City Council for alleged unrepublican practices
Ilha da Brava, February 1, 2024 - The African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) in Brava is considering filing a criminal complaint against the Mayor of Brava, due to alleged unrepublican practices, harmful management and abuse of political and financial power.
According to PAICV sources, the accusations include mismanagement of the municipality's financial resources, with alleged irregularities in the hiring processes and municipal expenses. Party members claim that these practices are causing significant damage to public coffers and compromising the sustainable development of the island.
Furthermore, the party alleges that the Mayor has abused his political power, damaging the proper functioning of local institutions and creating a non-transparent environment. Accusations of political cronyism and nepotism have also been raised, increasing political tension on the island.
The decision to consider a criminal complaint was taken after several attempts by PAICV to resolve the issues amicably, through dialogue and institutional collaboration. However, given the apparent lack of cooperation, the party is considering going to court to investigate the allegations and hold the Mayor accountable for his actions.
The population of Brava eagerly awaits the development of this case, which could have significant repercussions on local political stability. On social media, the President of the Chamber questioned why the PAICV did not go to court to assert the criticisms and accusations, and Bravanews understands that perhaps this will happen within weeks, according to a source from the Tambarina party at Brava.
