PAICV explains the refusal of the bench at the Municipal Assembly in relation to the loan of 120,000 contos made by CMB

City of Nova Sintra, February 17, 2024 (Bravanews) - The African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) on the island of Brava revealed that it voted against a loan of 120,000 contos due to the fact that more than 60% of this amount would be retained at the bank to pay off a previous loan made by the management of Orlando Balla, a former mayor elected on the lists of the Movement for Democracy (MpD).

According to PAICV, this situation would represent an inefficient use of financial resources, since the majority of the requested amount would not be applied directly to investments for the island's development. The party defends the need for transparent and responsible management of public resources, with the aim of promoting the sustainable development of Brava.

The African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV) declared that it will never take out loans, as long as they are directed towards investments that bring returns and social benefits to the population of Brava Island. The statement was made by the leader of the local PAICV in a video published on social media.

The leader of PAICV/Brava emphasized the importance of ensuring that loans are used in a responsible and transparent manner, ensuring that resources are invested in projects that have a lasting positive impact on the quality of life of the island's inhabitants.

The party also highlighted the importance of promoting the island's sustainable development, focusing on areas such as education, health, infrastructure and tourism. The PAICV leader reiterated the party's commitment to working collaboratively with local authorities and other political parties to ensure that resources are used effectively and transparently, aiming to benefit the population of Brava Island.

PAICV's statement comes at a time when the island is facing significant economic challenges, with the municipality's poor decisions having a negative impact on the well-being of the population. The party emphasized the importance of finding creative and sustainable solutions to drive the island's development, while ensuring financial sustainability and long-term social benefit.

PAICV reaffirmed its commitment to working towards the inclusive and sustainable development of Brava Island, ensuring that all localities can benefit from economic and social progress.
