PAICV Expresses Concern About the Situation of Children in Cape Verde and Proposes the Creation of an Observatory
Ana Paula Moeda - PAICV

The African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV) expressed deep concern about the situation of children in the country, during the celebrations of International Children's Day and the National Day Against the Abuse and Exploitation of Minors. The opposition's biggest political force defended the creation of an observatory to analyze the "critical situation" of families and assess the impact of the Government's "weak" public policies.

Through the deputy and member of the PAICV National Political Committee, Ana Paula Moeda, the party highlighted that this moment must be a moment of reflection on the living conditions of Cape Verdean children and the future that is intended to be built for them. "An uncertain future, shaped by the options that the Government takes and those it does not take", warned Ana Paula Moeda, cited by Inforpress.

The parliamentarian stressed the need for "robust, effective and rapid" responses for the childhood sector, at all levels, in order to "reverse the current situation as soon as possible". PAICV proposes the creation of an observatory to analyze the "critical situation" of families, with special attention to children and pre-adolescents, and evaluate the impact of public policies implemented by the Government led by Ulisses Correia e Silva.

Ana Paula Moeda reiterated the importance of policies that promote inclusion, the quality of teaching and the retention of students in schools. Protection against harassment, abuse and sexual exploitation of minors was also highlighted as an area requiring urgent measures and a zero-tolerance stance by authorities.

PAICV calls for the mobilization of civil society and competent institutions to join efforts in defending children's rights and building a better future for children in Cape Verde.
