PAICV requests “urgent” explanation from the Government on the situation of air transport in Cape Verde
PAICV today asked the Government for “urgent” clarification on the situation of air transport in Cape Verde, stating that this sector should occupy a “central axis” of public policies, but is the “most decadent” of this government.
This request was made at a press conference given by deputy Fidel Cardoso de Pina, when taking stock of the main issues addressed in the preparatory day for the May plenary session, on the situation of air transport that will be debated with the Prime Minister this Tuesday, 21st, at the request of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition).
For PAICV, the country continues to be in a situation of “uncertainty and unpredictability” in terms of air transport and that this “harms” all sectors of the national economy, therefore, it argued that this sector should occupy the “central axis” of public policies of the Government to help in the growth and development of the country.
“The transport sector continues to be the most decadent in the MpD governance, considering that there is a bad policy in the transport sector”, he emphasized.
On the other hand, Fidel de Pina said that in this session the PAICV will also ask the Government for clarification on the “non-transparent” contract it had with Bestfly.
And in this aspect he also considered that it is necessary for the Government to provide a response regarding the departure of this airline from the country and the situation of its workers.
“We also want clarification from the Government about the new leasing contract with TACV for another year”, said the PAICV deputy.
Furthermore, he stated that the largest opposition party wants to know the status of refunds for users who purchased tickets to travel on Bestfly.
On the other hand, he said that other topics will be discussed with the Prime Minister in this session, namely “growth and employment”.
In relation to this topic, he highlighted that growth is requiring enormous public administration expenses and that this does not generate wealth.
“Growth that has not had an impact on the economy, namely, people's income, the creation of jobs, the improvement of the living conditions of Cape Verdeans”, he stated, concluding that in this country "there are no major works" to generate more jobs.
