The mayor gave this guarantee to Inforpress, in terms of expectations for this year, adding that everyone knows that 2020 is the year of the elections, which should take place in the third quarter of the year.
But, he stressed, this is not a reason for the city council not to carry out its plan of activities for the year and to try its “maximum” to obtain funding to carry out the majority of the municipal plan approved by the Municipal Assembly until the end of the mandate, which should happen. at the end of July.
He added that his team already has some certainties, where they will start the year with the inauguration of some streets all over the island, as well as finish others, and start the streets in Campo Baixo, Cachaço and, probably, make some in Nova Sintra, another in Furna and Esparadinha, in Fajã d´Água.
He also pointed out that the construction works for the fish market have already restarted, which will be another achievement for 2020, in addition to having the expectation that, later this year, the requalifications of some streets and main roads in Nova Sintra can be inaugurated. , under the Requalification, Rehabilitation and Accessibility Program (PRRA).
Later this year, the city council will monitor the works on the road connecting Nova Sintra – Nossa Senhora do Monte and will benefit another 60 families with the rehabilitation of houses, bathrooms, roofing and other interventions.
The first desalination plant on the island is another achievement this year, as, according to him, the works are already advanced and his team is "hopeful" that this year, they will start work on the largest desalination plant, which will to stay in Esparadinha, in Fajã d´Água, to definitively solve the island's water problem.
For the environment sector, he informed that at the beginning of the year a garbage compactor truck that is already in the city of Praia will arrive on the island and the requalification of the seafront in the town of Furna will begin in partnership with the Government.
It is the year, which according to the same, will seek funding to finalize the works of the registered office in Lomba Tantum, whose works were financed within the impact project and within the scope of the Brava Fish project.
On a social level, the council will continue its social support program in relation to medication and health support, as well as support for students with post-secondary training and professional training.
With regard to Health, he informed that in a meeting he had with the minister of the area, he was given information that new equipment would arrive on the island, in addition to hiring more technicians for laboratories and probably a physiotherapist.
Regarding transport, which has been the "Achilles heel" of the island, he stressed that they are "anxious" to see if the company CV Interilhas will be able to respond to 100 percent (%) of maritime connections and from then on the city council will see whether you will need to take other measures.
And as one of the solutions, he advanced that it would be, together with private parties, to acquire a vessel to make the Brava-Fogo connection and vice versa, as many times as necessary and there is demand in this regard.
In this year that begins today, he informed that the autarchy will have for the first time all collaborators as employees, with the entry of 53 sweepers and five sanitation guards as employees of the municipal council, with a contract and enrolled in the National Institute of Social Security ( INPS).
On the cultural issue, he says he hopes to get the necessary funding from the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries for the operation of the municipal auditorium, which lacks sound equipment, lighting and chairs.
Completion of the requalification work on the Nossa Senhora do Monte multi-purpose park is a certainty for the sports area, in addition to continuing to support federated teams and legally created associations and awaiting funding from the Ministry of Sports to build the sports plaque of Thatch that will serve this area and Lomba Tantum and more funding for some requalification works on some old sports plaques such as Cachaço, Cova Rodela and Santa Barbara.
In tourism, he stressed that they will work a little more to affirm this sector on the island and the Tourism Fund will have a series of financing destined for the construction of the interpretive center of Brava, inauguration of the tourist information office, the financing of the second phase of pedestrian street of Furna and the construction of bathrooms and changing rooms to support the natural pools of Fajã d´Água
In culture, he assured that they will continue to support the June festivities as possible and depending on the size of each one, contribute to the promotion and preservation of the morna and, together with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, the musealization of the Eugénio Tavares house , whose tender was launched at the end of 2018.
