“It is with pleasure that I receive the keys to the city of Pawtucket, a gesture that symbolizes the recognition of our rich common history with the American Cape Verdean community, established here since the 18th century”, said the Prime Minister this Wednesday, 03 July, in the United States of America, where he completed the second day of his visit today.

For the Head of Government, this ceremony goes beyond the celebration of Cape Verde's 49 years of independence, it represents the inclusion and union of diverse cultures, which characterize both Pawtucket and our nation. “I thank Mayor Donald Grebien for his exemplary leadership and commitment to cultivating a city where everyone is recognized and valued,” he said.

“The handing over of the keys reinforces the strong relationship between Cape Verde and the United States, marked by lasting ties and a shared commitment to sustaining an inclusive and diverse community”, he highlighted, stating that “this symbolic moment reaffirms our commitment to the values of unity and cooperation. I promise to use this key to open even more doors for the future, intensifying ties between our countries and communities”, he concluded.

Yesterday, the 2nd, the Prime Minister presided over the “40 under forty” Merit Gala, organized by the Cape Verdean Association of Boston. Event that highlights the success and potential of our Diaspora in the United States. “Since the first Cape Verdeans arrived four centuries ago to fish whales in Rhode Island, our community has transformed itself into a representation of success and resilience”, said Ulisses Correia e Silva at the time, adding that “today, not only We celebrate those under forty, but we also recognize the contributions of all generations that have elevated Cape Verde's name in various fields such as academia, sport, art, medicine and technology”.

“This celebration is a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of our diaspora. I encourage everyone, especially those who have not yet visited Cape Verde or who visit rarely, to explore the land of their ancestors more intensely. This regular contact with the country is important, not only to learn about our roots, but also to strengthen ties and actively contribute to our continued development. Let us take advantage of the digital era that facilitates this connection, allowing a richer exchange of talents, technology and resources that benefits both Cape Verde and the communities where they live”, he further advanced.

For the Prime Minister, “it is with pride” that he sees Cape Verde being represented by citizens “who are excellent examples, showing that integration and success know no borders”. “Our diaspora carries the culture, identity and symbol of Cape Verde, transforming each member into an ambassador of our country wherever they are”, he concluded. “We will continue to strengthen these ties, actively participating in associative life and keeping the flame of our common heritage alive. Together, we are stronger and can build an even more resilient and prosperous nation”, concluded the Cape Verdean Chief Executive.
