Population showed dissatisfaction with the abandonment of Nossa Senhora do Monte after eight years of elevation to Vila
Nova Sintra, August 16, 2023 - After eight years of elevation to village, residents of Nossa Senhora do Monte have expressed their growing discontent with what they describe as persistent abandonment by local authorities. The population, which expected significant improvements in infrastructure and quality of life, reported feeling neglected and worn out by the lack of action.
The ceremony that marked the elevation of Nossa Senhora do Monte to village status eight years ago was celebrated with great enthusiasm and high expectations. The residents expected that this change would result in investments in infrastructure, education, health and other essential areas for improving the quality of life. However, over the years, many have reported that their hopes have been dashed by a lack of concrete action by local authorities.
The infrastructure of Nossa Senhora do Monte shows obvious signs of neglect, with roads and side paths in poor condition, lack of adequate public lighting and deficiencies in basic services. Residents also expressed concern about the lack of employment opportunities and economic development in the region, which led to a growing migration of young people in search of better prospects.
"We are disappointed and feel abandoned by the authorities," said Maria Silva, a longtime resident. "Our village deserves much more than that. We have natural resources, culture and potential, but we seem to be being overlooked."
Community leaders have been trying to draw attention to the situation and mobilize the population to press for significant changes. Appeals to the authorities have been made, seeking to draw attention to the urgent need for investments and revitalization of the village.
Speaking to Inforpress, the Mayor of Brava, claimed that “In fact, the development of Nossa Senhora do Monte is not yet at a level that is the desire of the city council team since it was elevated to the category of Village” , to add that it is in contact with national authorities to seek financial support and resources that can contribute to the development of Nossa Senhora do Monte.
While the population waits for concrete actions, the feeling of discontent continues to grow, making it clear that patience is running out. The journey towards the revitalization of Nossa Senhora do Monte appears to be just beginning, with the hope that the village can finally receive the attention and investment it needs to thrive as a vibrant and thriving community.
