President José Maria Neves Clarifies Misinformation about Reintegration Allowance
José Maria Neves, President of Cape Verde, clarified that he never received the reintegration subsidy in his political career, choosing to prioritize ethical principles over legal benefits.
The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, used social media to clarify information that has been circulating about his political life.
In his message, Neves highlighted that, despite having the legal right, he had never received the reinstatement allowance during transitions between public positions. He explained that, when he left his position as deputy and vice president of the National Assembly to take on the presidency of the Santa Catarina City Council, he refused the benefit because he considered it unethical, given that he was not returning to civilian life, but rather transitioning to another public position.
The same stance was adopted when he left the presidency of the Santa Catarina City Council to become Prime Minister. José Maria Neves emphasized that, in total, he would be entitled to around 2,000 contos, but chose not to receive the amount, stating: "In politics, beyond the law, there is the ethics of responsibility!"
