President of the Republic considers inter-island transport situation in Cape Verde “chaotic”
The President of the Republic today considered that the transport situation in Cape Verde is “chaotic”, and asked the competent authorities to give satisfaction to the country, taking into account the “seriousness of the situation”.
In a statement to the press to talk about the subject, José Maria Neves stated that the transport situation has greatly harmed the country, recommending that it is essential that the competent authorities satisfy the country.
This taking into account, as he said, the "seriousness of the situation that puts not only the national economy at risk, but also its own security".
“Transport has to do with territorial cohesion, the competitiveness of the national economy, the productivity of companies and the mobility of people and goods”, he maintained.
In this sense, he called for emergency measures to be taken immediately to put an end to this situation and, above all, for the competent authorities to clearly show society, citizens, companies, whether there is a path to be followed towards a definitive and sustainability of this situation.
“As President of the Republic, I am extremely concerned about what has happened in recent days and it is time to put an end to this chaos, otherwise we will irreparably harm the country", he said, reinforcing that the competent authorities must take action.
For José Maria Neves, Cape Verde cannot continue in this situation of having no connections between the islands, putting into question the cohesion of the country, the mobility of people, the productivity of companies and, above all, putting into question national security itself.
“This is harming the agenda of sovereign bodies, it is harming families, it is harming the functioning of several institutions”, he said, exemplifying the problem of holding Cape Verde Cup matches in football, precisely because there is no there is transport, in addition to other important achievements on several islands that have been hampered due to the lack of transport.
However, the President of the Republic declared that the Government has to act and has to tell Cape Verdeans what it is going to do, giving guarantees and restoring the country's hope.
Last week, Transportes Interilhas de Cabo Verde (TICV) had announced the arrival of a new aircraft, the Bombardier Dash 8 Q300, mobilized to make up for the absence, for maintenance reasons, of two ATR 72-600 aircraft, further reaffirming that the company is “entirely committed” to the mission it assumed towards Cape Verde and Cape Verdeans.
Meanwhile, this Saturday, TICV (which operates under the BestFly Cabo Verde brand) announced again that all of the company's flights remain canceled until May 7th, ensuring that it is working diligently to protect passengers.
