The Minister of Internal Administration was at the end of this Saturday morning visiting some of the most critical points of the City of Praia, affected by the rains.
Paulo Rocha spoke to journalists next to the Vila Nova bridge and advanced that the damage is still being assessed, not least because the rains continue.
“We are still in a phase of accounting for the losses, the damage, in agreement with the Municipality of Praia. At this moment it is still premature, but there is the loss of a human life, the fall of some aerial walkways, vehicles that were carried away by the floods and several houses flooded until now. There is also some damage in the interior of Santiago, as in the case of Ribeira da Barca.”
The Minister of Internal Administration took the opportunity to appeal to people not to be on the streets without having anything to do.
“You can see a large number of people roaming the streets, the satisfaction is great, of course, but we have two risks here: on the one hand, the risk of contamination, people are not even wearing masks. On the other hand, there are risks arising from the atmospheric situation itself. People have to realize that at these times it is convenient to protect themselves and stay at home, because there are floods, there are falling stones, there are risks of electrocution, so this is the appeal I make to the population”, added the official.
