The head of the Laboratory and Blood Bank of Hospital São Francisco de Assis today made a positive assessment of the donation campaign that took place on the island, informing that 22 blood bags were obtained.
Speaking to the press, Carla Araújo explained that this blood donation campaign, which took place in Brava on the 9th and 10th, is part of the activities related to the celebration of World Blood Donor Day, marked on the 14th of June.
According to the same source, they received about 30 people and of these, 22 were able to donate blood and considered the collection as "a blessing" for the Blood Bank, recalling that a bag saves four lives.
Carla Araújo underlined that they always receive patients from Brava who need a blood transfusion and are assisted and rescued thanks to the existing stock in the Blood Bank and the active donors who collaborate.
That is why taking a good stock of Brava is already “an asset”, as it shows donors from Fogo that in Brava there is not a more active participation due to the lack of a Blood Bank on the island.
But, he informed, if someone from Brava travels to Fogo and wants to donate blood, just get in touch and they will provide everything necessary for the action that saves lives.
He congratulated the public from Brave, the institutions and partner entities active on the island and which have regular donors, namely the Red Cross, the Adventist Church and the National Police, among others, which mobilized several donors.
This person in charge took the opportunity to announce that, in partnership with the Health Department of Brava and the Adventist Church of the 7th Day, they are already preparing another campaign to be carried out in Brava in mid-December of the current year.
And, whenever possible, he stressed, they will travel to Brava to "involv" the island in these actions and raise public awareness of the importance of blood donation.
