Works on Rua Direita in Nova Sintra generate dissatisfaction among residents

Nova Sintra residents today expressed their discontent with the unfinished work on Rua Direita, which has caused inconvenience to residents, traders and passers-by. According to reports gathered by Inforpress, the problem is related to the loose stones deposited on the site for the start of the works, which have remained paralyzed for more than three months, affecting circulation and day-to-day life in the area.

Ruty, the owner of a boutique located on the street, highlighted the difficulties faced by her customers in accessing the store due to the narrowing of the road, aggravated by the stones that occupy a large part of the space. "The street is already narrow by nature, and now it's worse. We want redevelopment, but if they're not going to start now, let them remove the materials to free up traffic," the shopkeeper appealed, pointing out the damage to both businesses and pedestrians.

José Mendes, the driver of a rental car, also expressed concern about the situation. He reported that the circulation of vehicles in the area has been made difficult, requiring extra attention from drivers to avoid accidents. "The road is tight, with no sidewalks, and the stones increase the risk. Someone needs to take urgent action," he warned.

Contacted by Inforpress, António de Pina, the contractor responsible for the work, said that his company is ready to start work, but is waiting for the city council to release the funds. He justified the delay by the recent change in the municipal administration, which is still in the process of stabilizing itself in order to release the necessary funds. Announced last December and scheduled to begin in January, the work to upgrade Rua Direita still has no definite start date.

The residents continue to ask for a quick solution, either with the progress of the works or with the clearing of the road, to minimize the impact on their routine.
