The board of directors of Radiotelevisão Cabo-verdeana (RTC) said today that it had taken note of the complaint by the President of the Republic to the ARC and said it was awaiting notification from the Regulatory Authority for the Media.
In a statement, the administration of RTC highlights that it became aware of the complaint, through the media, and of the note from the Presidency of the Republic that declares the presentation, on January 10, of two complaints against the Directorate of Television of Cabo Verde, with the Regulatory Authority for the Media (ARC).
The complaints, according to the same note, are due to the alleged disrespectful treatment of the Organ of Sovereignty President of the Republic and the treatment considered "discriminatory and disproportionate" given to the President of the Republic in the journalistic coverage of the conference "Public Television - service and innovation", within the scope of the 25 years of RTP Africa.
In view of this, the entity that manages the public channels, claims to have duly learned about all the contexts and matters that gave rise to the aforementioned complaints and contained in the statement from the Presidency of the Republic, and ensures that it is awaiting notification from the regulatory authority .
This, as explained by the board of directors in the press release, in order, in accordance with democratic rules, to present its factual and objective defense, under the terms of the Press Law and the Constitution of the Republic.
On Tuesday, the Presidency of the Republic, through a press release, informed that it had submitted two complaints to the ARC against the Directorate of Television of Cabo Verde (TCV), for “disrespectful treatment” to the sovereign body President of the Republic.
The first complaint is due to the failure to broadcast the New Year's message from the President of the Republic on TCV, on December 31, 2022, as has been the practice since the First Republic.
While the second complaint refers to the discriminatory and disproportionate treatment given to the President of the Republic in the journalistic coverage of the conference “Public Television – service and innovation”, within the scope of the 25 years of RTP Africa, closed by the head of state.
