Santo Antão: John D'Brava is present at the International Festival of the Arts of the Portuguese Language

The artist from Brave, resident in Santo Antão, John D'Brava, confirmed today his presence at the twelfth edition of the International Festival of the Arts of the Portuguese Language (FESTLIP), which takes place from the 18th to the 23rd of June.

The artist from Brave, resident in Santo Antão, John D'Brava, confirmed today his presence at the twelfth edition of the International Festival of the Arts of the Portuguese Language (FESTLIP), which takes place from the 18th to the 23rd of June.

The event brings together artists from Cape Verde, Angola, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor for concerts, dramatic readings, theater shows, film screenings, debates, exhibitions and gastronomic shows .

This year, due to the covid-19 pandemic, the event will be online, live, available, free of charge, on digital channels (facebook.com/festlip and youtube.com/festlip).

John D'Brava, the only Cape Verdean to participate in this international festival, has a performance scheduled for the 19th of June and promises a “rich” repertoire, which will focus on traditional Cape Verdean music.

John D'Brava, born on the island of Brava, has lived in Santo Antão for some years now, is a multi-instrumentalist musician and one of the members of the Santo Antão musical groups Cordas do Sol and Santo Antão Sete Sóis Band.

With the official support of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and the Camões Institute, FESTLIP offers a variety of activities for six consecutive days based on its experience in the Portuguese-speaking artistic universe for over 10 years and, more recently, in the their digital platforms.

The program includes, in addition to the musician John D'Brava (Cape Verde), the singers, composers and instrumentalists Paulo Matomina and Abel Dueré (Angola), the Brazilian singer based in Portugal Luanda Cozetti and her group Couple Coffee, DJ Mam (Brazil), singer Iragrett Tavares, (Guinea-Bissau), singer, songwriter and drummer Otis Selimane (Mozambique), singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Yami (Portugal) and singer, songwriter and guitarist Tonecas Prazeres (São Tome and Principe).
