São João Baptista/Brava: Public leaves the music festival straight to the traditional procession to the “mast”

The Brave community, residents, emigrants and visitors, left the Santana multi-purpose venue where the music festival took place, heading to the Mother School in Achada Igreja to pick up the presents and follow in procession to the mast.

Upon arriving at the Mother School, with the euphoria and heat of the dance still reigning, people began to sing and dance to the sound of the drums, and in the same place food and drinks were distributed, which is always the responsibility of the party planner, who this year it is Anildo Vaz.

Then, each one picked up their tray with their gift, arranged by the party planner and his staff, where on each tray they put everything from canastras (bread in different formats), drinks, bananas, among other gifts, which are also decorated with flowers. of cardinal.

From Achada Igreja to Cutelo Grande, where the mast is raised, people followed to the sound of the drum and the singing of the coladeiras to deliver to Henrique Pina, the “mast man” on the island, because at almost 80 years old, only he keeps alive the tradition of the pole and as early as 06:30 he was already ready to receive the offerings that will later be placed on the pole.

With the delivery of the gifts, Henrique Pina begins his work, and the public returns each to their destination, some following the drummers and coladeiras and others going home.

The Eucharistic celebration in honor of São João Baptista is scheduled for 10:30 am, followed by the procession, the usual lunch offered by the party planner, the boat to the mast which is always scheduled for 5:00 pm and the passing of the flag to the party planner Saint John 2024.
