The Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Youth and Sport, Carlos do Canto Monteiro, guaranteed this morning at the opening of the School Games that took place at the Pavilhão Desportivo Vavá Duarte, in the city of Praia, that the Government will reinforce work in the sector of school sports, giving more “life and subsistence” to schools for the development of sport.
The School Games take place with the aim of promoting the exchange and mobility of students both within their municipalities and between the islands, as advanced by Carlos do Canto Monteiro. “This initiative comes with the aim of increasing the participation of students in sports activities in educational institutions, public and private, in the municipalities of Santiago Sul, and promoting the wide mobilization of the student population around our sport”, he said.
This is an important moment for the school and sports community, taking into account the effective return of this initiative, which represents an added value for physical and mental education in the development and training of our students in schools across the country.
It should be noted that this project covers around 7,000 (seven thousand) children and adolescents aged between 10 and 16 years old, enrolled in Basic and Secondary Education schools and their Physical Education Teachers.
The opening ceremony of the School Games and the 2023 Sports Olympics project, at the Vavá Duarte Sports Pavilion, was presided over by the Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister for Youth and Sports, Carlos do Canto Monteiro, accompanied by the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, Delegates of the Ministry of Education of Santiago Sul and the Administrator of the Institute of Sports and Youth.
