Some teachers at the Nossa Senhora do Monte School are dissatisfied with the appointment of teachers from other islands to the School's Management

City of Nova Sintra, September 24, 2024 (Bravanews) - At the Nossa Senhora do Monte School, in Brava, a group of teachers decided to express their dissatisfaction with the current composition of the institution's management. In an anonymous statement addressed to this portal, the educators raised concerns about the fact that the management is composed exclusively of teachers from other islands, which, according to them, disregards the skills, knowledge and will of local professionals.

The complainants argue that Brava has a rich source of talent and experience among its educators, who, for various reasons, are not being valued in the school's administrative decisions. "It is discouraging to see that, even though we have qualified and dedicated teachers here on our island, leadership opportunities are being given to outsiders," said one of the teachers who participated in the complaint.

In addition to the lack of local representation, educators point out that this situation can negatively affect the school environment and student performance. They believe that the presence of principals who do not have a direct connection with the community can lead to decisions that do not reflect the needs and particularities of the school and students in Brava.

The group also called on the island’s Education Department to reconsider its policy on appointing leaders to positions, fostering a more inclusive and representative environment. “We want to be heard and have the chance to contribute to the development of an education that respects the culture and specificities of our island,” said one of the teachers.

The school climate appears to be tense, with many educators concerned about the future and governance of local education. This situation raises important questions about the value of local professionalism in educational institutions, and highlights the need for open dialogue between school administration and educators. Calling for greater transparency and inclusion could be a crucial step toward building a more equitable and collaborative school environment in Brava.

The educational community of Brava awaits a response from the Delegation and hopes that the concerns expressed can open a space for reflection and change.
