Speaking to the media, Mário Soares said that this measure is within the current framework of seismic activity in Brava and also explained that the Contingency is a set of measures to be adopted in the event of a worsening of the situation.
“We hope that there will be no worsening and fortunately in the last few days we have been calmer, without earthquakes or perhaps with such low intensity that it is not possible to notice”, he stressed.
According to the same source, the Civil Protection delegate for the Fogo and Brava region has been in the municipality since the weekend and, together with municipal services, has been surveying risk areas and reassuring the population, passing “credible” information.
“Unfortunately, there is still some 'fake news' that has been circulating on social media, but it is important that we transmit credible information so that people can be equipped with information and guidance on what can be done”, he highlighted.
This official also made it known that last week there was a meeting with the municipal civil protection commission, which includes the Coast Guard, National Police, Health Department, education sector and other institutions on the island, where he assured that it had already been an intervention plan was drawn up and is being finalized.
“The intervention plan is already at 99 percent (%), however, all that remains is to compile the data to make its official presentation, however this strategy is in close alignment with the Government's hat plan”, he stated.
In this situation, he assured that Civil Protection has been raising awareness in schools and also visiting educational infrastructures, with the aim of investigating any possible needs for interventions or corrective measures in light of this situation.
On November 22nd, the Government declared a contingency and alert situation for Brava Island for a period of four months, which can be extended.
