A group of young people from Brave is celebrating the flag of São Pedro, celebrated on the 29th of June, after having rescued the flag from the church at the beginning of June, since no one took it last year.

Speaking to Inforpress, Nilton Gonçalves, one of the members of the group, said that at first they were not aware that the flag was in the church, as normally the flags are passed on the day of the party, in this case, June 29, by around 17:00 when the boat is given to the mast.

Only in the year 2022 no one came to take it and prepare the party for this year, having to go back to the church and when they found out, they got together and decided to rescue the flag.

This Tuesday will be the day before, on the 28th it will be the day before and on the 29th, with the support of all the resident and emigrant community of Brave, they will celebrate the flag as tradition dictates, justifying that the flag belongs to the people, and cannot stay in church.

Today, the day before eve is celebrated and for the beginning of the night they will perform the “pilon” and will serve some food and drinks as much as possible.

In the traditional part, the group is counting on the support of drummers and coladeiras, who promptly joined as soon as they were contacted.

Nilton Gonçalves undertook to always mobilize the community so as not to let any flag remain in the church, and if he does not find companions for this mission, he and his children go to the church to get the flag and celebrate it the way they want. is possible.

In fact, he recalled that since he was a little boy he learned to play the drum and gets involved in these activities of the flag, as he is the grandson of an “inescapable figure” of the flag festivals, “Nhô Mundinho” and after he died, he ordered a drum on the island of Santo Antão to resemblance to his grandfather and whenever asked he will play because it is something he likes.
