Vergílio Pires assured Inforpress that the teachers working in the municipality are people who convey confidence and are prepared to teach classes and bring knowledge to the students.

The official also pointed out that the teachers who have started work this academic year are "properly integrated", although there are "some bureaucratic and administrative constraints" related to contracts and other aspects of working life, which mainly come from the first year.

"At the moment, we consider that these issues have been overcome and are being resolved on a case-by-case basis. Therefore, we believe that the teaching staff in the municipality is stable, gives us confidence and guarantees that we will continue to achieve the best possible results," said the Ministry of Education delegate.

Lopes also stressed that the teacher is a professional who "inspires care" and that the Delegation and the Ministry of Education must be "very careful" in what they do so that they feel "well prepared and ready" to do their job on a daily basis in schools.

The delegate congratulated all teachers on today's date and stressed that this profession is "noble and of great value", which is why he called for "dedication, motivation and good will" from everyone who is part of this class.

Cape Verdean Teachers' Day is celebrated annually on April 23, the day of the birth of Professor Baltasar Lopes da Silva.

It was instituted by a political will expressed in decree no. 25, of April 21, 1990, with the aim of dignifying the teaching profession and stimulating reflection on teaching and education.

At the time of its publication, the decree stated that: "the search for a consensual date, with a high symbolic, human, civic and patriotic value was found, through a process of consultation with teachers, on April 23rd, the date of the birth of the worthy teacher of several generations of Cape Verdeans, many of whom were competent servants of education and of the country - Professor Dr. Baltasar Lopes da Silva, who was one of the most important teachers in the country. Baltasar Lopes da Silva, a symbol of the idea of the teacher, dedicated to teaching, whose example deserves to be followed".
