The island's deep historical connection with the United States of America justified the choice of Mr. Ambassador for his first visit to the Islands in the year in which the two hundred years of friendship between the two countries are celebrated.

During his stay, he met with local authorities, visited projects financed by the US Government and met with US citizens, and visited some public and private institutions linked to education and the private sector.
The Embassy of the United States of America, in partnership with the Municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo, financed the Fruit Growing Promotion Project, directly benefiting 86 families, with 2,200 fruit plants. In the Municipality of Mosteiros, the Ambassador signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Information and Research Nucleus, known as the American Corner.
