Ilha Brava without a regional soccer championship, a lament for the lack of commitment to the future of soccer

For the first time in more than three decades, Ilha Brava will not be hosting the Regional Football Championship. It is with a feeling of great disappointment that we announce the void left by the absence of this sporting event which, over the years, has been a symbol of unity and celebration of the love of soccer in our community.

Ilha Brava without a regional soccer championship, a lament for the lack of commitment to the future of soccer

The Ilha Brava Regional Championship, which used to bring together young people, families and fervent sports fans, has become a distant dream for this season. What was supposed to be a moment of excitement, healthy competition and a celebration of soccer as an element of local identity, has been destroyed by years of disorganization and lack of planning. The irresponsibility of the leaders, who preferred to postpone crucial decisions and leave everything to the last minute, culminated in the failure of an event that everyone was looking forward to.

It is with sadness that we recognize that it is not for lack of support, but for a blatant failure of management on the part of the clubs that Ilha Brava will be left out of a national championship for the first time in decades. The Regional Football Association did what it could to make the competition viable, looking for alternatives, solutions and even extra resources, but the response from the clubs was a mixture of inertia and disinterest. The lack of will on the part of many managers, who didn't make the effort to organize the tournament in a serious and committed way, led to the championship being postponed, and eventually cancelled.

Now, a great concern grips us: what will become of our young athletes? What will happen to those who saw soccer as an outlet, a source of joy and, for many, the greatest of dreams? What will a Sunday be like without the field full of enthusiasm, without the ball rolling and without the goal shouts echoing in the hearts of the brave men of our island? It's an immense pain to think that our Ilha Brava, a land rich in talent and passion for soccer, will be left out of a national competition due to a lack of commitment and organization.

The big question that arises is: do these young people, who place so much hope in soccer, deserve to be penalized for faults that were not theirs? Is it fair that, because of the indifference of a few, our island should pay the price of seeing its young people deprived of opportunities, development and dreams? The lack of planning doesn't just affect the competition itself, but the continuity and growth of soccer on the Brava, damaging the potential of an entire generation of athletes.

In recent months, the Desporto Brava website has played its part, disseminating information, supporting clubs and encouraging the practice of sport. However, the real change needs to come from within the clubs and the Regional Association itself, which must work with more commitment and seriousness. Soccer on the Brava can no longer be treated as something secondary that can be put off and neglected. It is an important pillar in the lives of many people, and we cannot allow it to continue to be treated with neglect.

This episode should serve as a wake-up call to us all. What has happened is not just a failure of planning, but a reflection of the lack of interest and vision of some leaders. Our island, with all its passion and history in soccer, does not deserve this neglect. Bravaense soccer needs new leaders, people willing to invest and work for the future of this passion that is capable of uniting the community and giving hope to young people.

I, like many others, love soccer, love my island and care deeply about the young people who are the promise of tomorrow. But faced with this whole situation, what can I feel but sadness and disappointment? May this sad and frustrating moment motivate us to reflect and look for alternatives to save what remains of our passion for this great and meaningful sport.

May this situation serve as a turning point, so that soccer on the Ilha Brava can finally once again be treated with the attention and affection it deserves. Only in this way will we be able to ensure that future generations are not deprived of the opportunities that sport can offer.
