Domingos Mendes, the group's representative, enthusiastically shared the challenges and hopes that follow this journey. From the age of three, Mendes fell in love with the art of drumming, a passion that shaped his life and that he now seeks to pass on to young people. For Mendes, traditional festivals are more than just a celebration; they are a fundamental part of the identity and soul of Brava Island. He is committed to inspiring new generations to keep these traditions alive and preserve the island’s rich culture.
Mendes expresses his honor at receiving the invitation to participate in the festival and highlights that the Flor da Brava Group is largely made up of members of the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte. He urges anyone interested in learning about and engaging in traditional culture to join the group, reinforcing the idea that unity is the driving force for preserving and promoting the culture of Brava Island.
Mendes also expressed his desire for the group to have the opportunity to participate in traditional festivals on Brava Island. He asked local authorities to consider extending an invitation to the group so that they can celebrate and share their art with their homeland.
The Flor da Brava Group invites the entire community to support its participation in the Nha Terra Nha Krethêu festival, reaffirming its commitment to keeping the cultural heritage and festive spirit of Brava Island alive. The presence and support of everyone is essential for the success of this journey and for the appreciation of the rich Cape Verdean tradition.
