The lack of a post office in Nossa Senhora do Monte
Nossa Senhora do Monte, August 2, 2024 – The absence of a post office in Nossa Senhora do Monte has generated significant concern among the residents of that parish. Since the location closed, the population has faced a series of difficulties related to the delivery and sending of correspondence and packages, and other services offered by the company.
The old station, which functioned as a crucial point for communication, services and logistics in the parish, was deactivated due to an administrative decision by Correios, which claimed the need for restructuring and operational savings. The measure, however, left residents without access to an essential service.
“It’s a huge inconvenience. We need to travel to the city of Nova Sintra to carry out simple tasks such as sending a letter or picking up a package, paying a bill or receiving money”, complains Antonio Gomes, one of the many affected residents. “In addition, transportation costs have increased considerably and this has a direct impact on our pockets.”
The situation has generated an increase in complaints about delays in the delivery of important correspondence and problems with parcels, especially for those who depend on these services for commercial activities or urgent personal matters.
Local representatives have requested action and asked the City Council to influence the National Post Office, but so far nothing has been done and they are at least asking for alternatives to restore service in the parish.
Meanwhile, the residents of Nossa Senhora do Monte are waiting for a resolution that could alleviate the challenges posed by the absence of postal service in the parish. The expectation is that, with dialogue and collaboration between the parties involved, a solution will be found.
