MENTAL PATIENT WHO hid her was also assaulted
His name is Jorge, but he is better known in Achada de Santo António as “Atxa”, where he is considered mentally ill. It is he who was found this Monday afternoon with the little Dairiny hidden inside a small boat abandoned on Rua da Boavista, in Palmarejo Baixo, in the city of Praia.
Dairiny, 5 years old, had disappeared from her parents' house on Sunday night, having been missing for more than 18 hours. The Judiciary Police and the National Police began the search on the same night, with the only suspect being that mental patient who every day looked for food on the street where the child lives.
Finally, around four o'clock this Monday afternoon, Jorge was located, he and the child, inside the vessel (right in the photo).
According to eyewitness information Dairiny was fine - just scared - with no signs of physical abuse. But even so, he was taken to the Agostinho Neto hospital for medical observation.
Jorge was not taken to the hospital. The man, with clear signs of having been attacked as you can see in the photo, was, according to a note from the Judiciary Police, sent to the Central Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the National Police, located in Prainha, Praia.
The authorities, incidentally, made no reference to his physical condition or whether he would be taken to a doctor for a physical and mental examination.
VICTIMS AND PERSONNEL
It is not yet known what the exact circumstances of the child's "abduction" are, but whatever they are, the behavior is still very serious. It now remains to be seen whether the "abductor", with a mental disorder as everyone says, was aware of the seriousness of the act, but only a psychiatrist will be able to give an opinion on that.
What everyone can say because it is experienced every day is how mentally ill people are treated on the streets of the city of Praia - but not only - where they are daily victims of physical and verbal violence, "joking" and other forms of discrimination that only contribute to worsen their mental state and even provoke aggressive behavior in them. But from the photo on the right, “normal” people can be even more aggressive than mentally ill people. And more violent. And cowards.
