Ulisses Correia e Silva makes a very positive assessment of the US-Africa Forum

Ulisses Correia e Silva said that it was agreed that relations between the US and Africa should reach another level and move towards a win win partnership, instead of a donor/recipient direction. It is unanimous that “we must move towards effective partnerships of mutual gains, not only centered on cooperation for development, but also on trade, investments, in the private sector”.

The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva is already in Boston, after having participated in the Forum of African-US Leaders that took place in Washington.

A Forum that, according to his words in an interview with TCV and RCV, he considered “very positive”, mainly due to the commitments assumed by the North American administration in the speeches given during the events, but also due to the signals that came from the White House, from the presence on several occasions of President Joe Biden at the Forum events, as well as the positions of the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

For the Head of Government, the US is aware of the importance of having a greater political and diplomatic dialogue with the African continent. “Since 2014, no Summits of this type have been held”, said the Prime Minister.

To reinforce this idea, Ulisses Correia e Silva said that it was agreed that relations between the US and Africa should reach another level and move towards a win win partnership, instead of a donor/recipient direction. It is unanimous that "we must move towards effective partnerships of mutual gains, not only centered on cooperation for development, but also on trade, investments, in the private sector", he underlined.

“Then, there is a framework of convergence of what are the priorities of the African Union and which were well expressed by President Macky Sall in the Forum”, concluded the Prime Minister.

Regarding the agenda of Ulisses Correia e Silva and the accompanying delegation, the Presentation of the Cabo Verde Digital Project is scheduled for this afternoon, with the presence of the World Bank and, tomorrow, Saturday, he should travel to New Bedford and Rhode Island, before meeting our Community in Brockton.

It should be noted that the visit, initially scheduled for the State of New Hampshire, did not take place due to the bad weather that is felt in the northeast of the USA.
