The organization of the party in honor of Cape Verde's ambassador to the United States of America (USA), Carlos Veiga, expects over a thousand people at the event scheduled for Saturday, 28, in Swanse, Massachusetts.

Speaking to Inforpress, from the USA, one of the organizers, Júlio de Carvalho, said that the homage intends to recognize “the contribution” that Carlos Veiga makes to the Cape Verdean community in the United States and because he has been an ambassador “close to the population".

“At the moment, at least, we have already sold 600 tickets, we will certainly exceed expectations in people's participation,” guaranteed Júlio de Carvalho.

According to the aforementioned source, the organizing committee for the tribute is made up of members of the Cape Verdean community in the US, including the vice-president of the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID), Júlio de Carvalho, former congressman of the Movement for Democracy (MpD) for the constituency of America, Cândido Rodrigues, and former deputy of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) for the same constituency, Jovino Peres, as well as the civil aviation pilot and a of the founders of MpD, Eduino Moniz.

Júlio de Carvalho said that several organizations and individuals had already offered to decorate Ambassador Carlos Veiga during the party, including senators, congressmen, mayors, civic and community associations

“This is the first time that elements of the MpD, PAICV and UCID parties and civil society have gathered in the organization of this homage party”, summarized Júlio de Carvalho, which shows, “in fact”, he continued, that Carlos Veiga is a ambassador who “knew how to understand and integrate” the community.

The animation of the tribute party will be in charge of artists such as Neuza de Pina, Assol Garcia, Kim Alves, Vargas Monteiro, Gutty Duarte, Michel Montrond and the group Ferro Gaita.

In 2013, a group of Cape Verdeans also honored Cape Verde's ambassador to the US, Fátima Veiga, who at the time was transferred from Washington to France, according to Inforpress.
