I also salute my fellow citizens from Praia. Praia is one of the most fascinating places in Cape Verde, of enormous importance, and where the dedication of those who serve it must be unquestionable. It is intriguing to note that, one month after his re-election, he is already thinking about leaving his post to run in the next elections. The people of Praia deserved a different kind of commitment. At this moment, we do not know what commitment their mayor will have. Whether this mandate will be just a platform for an election campaign, or whether he will step down from office, leaving the City Council in the hands of a mayor who was not elected by the people.
These issues concern the PAICV, but also the people of Praia and Cape Verde, and illustrate the need to reverse this trivialization of public office.
I wish the best of luck to the current candidate for the leadership of the PAICV and hope, above all, that he will be faithful to his promises and commitments and that he will fulfill his mandate as Mayor of Praia. This is what the voters who trusted him expect in return for their vote.
Any attitude that goes against this expectation will be a betrayal of the trust placed in the institution and an example of the lack of commitment of politicians, demonstrating the need for greater citizen participation in political life.
I hope that the MpD knows how to interpret these signs and that at the meeting already announced for the 11th we can give the people the response they deserve. A response of trust, commitment and, above all, renewal and strengthening of citizens' participation in the performance of duties in the service of the public cause.
