Visit from the Professor of Bristol Community College
Last week, we had the honor of receiving a visit from Professor Dr. Carlos Almeida, from Bristol Community College, located in Fall River, Massachusetts, United States of America. Dr. Almeida is a renowned researcher of the richness and diversity of the Cape Verdean language, covering its variants from Brava to Santo Antão.
During the meeting, Professor Almeida presented his project of research and requested support to facilitate the identification of informants who could contribute to capturing conversations and interviews in a natural and informal setting. This collaboration is fundamental to the development of her work, which aims to enrich the understanding of the particularities of the Cape Verdean language.
Additionally, Dr. Almeida said that the aim of the research is to complement with video and/or audio a Cape Verdean Language Manual entitled "Kabu Verdi di Ilia pa Ilia - Língua, Kultura y Stória". This manual seeks to preserve and promote the language, culture and history of Cape Verde, emphasizing the importance of documenting and valuing local traditions.
We thank Dr. Carlos Almeida for his visit and for the relevant contribution that his research can make to the knowledge and preservation of the Cape Verdean language. We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote our culture and identity.
