The information was provided to Inforpress by the head of civil protection and firefighters, António Marcelino, adding that at around 14:30, the fire was already under control.
“There was no human or material damage, just the burning of about one hectare of pasture. Now we are carrying out the aftermath, with the support of the military, the National Police and residents of the locality”, he informed.
According to the person in charge, the fire started due to the carelessness of a farmer who was cleaning his field and set fire to burn pastures (burn).
To control the fire, António Marcelino said that the island's eight firefighters were mobilized.
