Young athletes from Nossa Senhora do Monte demand promise of training camp from the Mayor of Brava
Nossa Senhora do Monte, 10 August 2024 – The young sports community of Nossa Senhora do Monte, in Brava, is in the spotlight as it reminds the Mayor of Brava of an important promise. Local sportspeople have been lobbying the administration to build a training pitch for 11-a-side football, an infrastructure that, according to them, is crucial for the development of the sport in the parish.
According to the young athletes, the construction of this field would not only provide a significant reduction in the costs of football teams, but would also be an essential step in the development of new talent. Currently, local teams (Coroa and Benfica) face challenges due to the lack of adequate facilities, which limits their ability to train and compete in optimal conditions.
Benfica de Nossa Senhora do Monte has not been participating in local competitions for essentially financial reasons and one of the biggest burdens has to do with travel for training, according to one of the directors.
One of the parish's well-known athletes, Joaquim Gomes, said on his social media that he was hopeless about fulfilling this promise, and sarcastically said “in another incarnation we might be able to see this dream come true”.
The promise of building a training camp has been a source of hope for athletes and the community in general, who see the improvement of infrastructure as an opportunity for growth and success for local sports, but most are aware that this hope is fading every year.
Some young people say they are aware that in the upcoming election campaign they will hear this and other promises for the parish again, but they know that they will be deceived again.
